                          Description

                          Immigration Program assists immigrants seeking eligibility and services for visas, family reunification, petitions, work permits, naturalization, adjustment of status, and translation and interpretation services. Outreach to community groups seeking such assistance.

                          Hours

                          Call to schedule an appointment M - F, or, walk in for immigration consultations W 8:30 am -12 noon, 1 - 5 pm.

                          Eligibility

                          No set restrictions, but services are intended for low-income clients. Clients who make more than 200% of poverty are generally referred to private immigration legal services. Consultations are only available through Salt Lake location, but clients can be served statewide via phone or email.

                          Fees

                          CCS charges a different fee for each type of immigration application/service. Fees are assessed during the client's first consultation/intake and the fee is based upon the client's income and ability to pay.

                            Refugee Resettlement Youth Mentors

                            Description

                            Provide ongoing mentoring and support for a refugee youth with refugee status. Mentors will help youth in the program develop skills of self-empowerment and relationship building. Mentors are supported within network of volunteers through quarterly training and group activities.

                            Mentors must be 21 years of age or older and able to commit volunteering for a minimum of one (1) year.

                              Description

                              Mentor a refugee family. At minimum, spend 2-3 hours a week for 4-6 months helping a family acquaint to life in Utah. Tasks include everything from explaining American grocery stores to attending Parent-Teacher conferences. Teach English to refugees. Tutor school-age refugee children. Assist with the set-up of refugee family homes prior to arrival. Assist case managers with office help assisting with refugee transition and clerical assistance.

                              Hours

                              Administration: M - F 8:30 am - 5 pm; Orientation: 2nd Th of every month, 5:45 pm.

                              Eligibility

                              Volunteer skills needed include: demonstrated ability to work in a team environment and ability to work with diverse groups of people and other community agencies; an understanding of the overall resettlement process and the programs that CCS administers and provides for refugees; knowledge of grammar, spelling, understanding of verbal and written instructions in English; flexibility and ability to perform work quickly and accurately with minimal instructions; basic Word processing, computer skills and operations of related ancillary equipment; work carefully and precisely, with attention to detail; work independently in a safe appropriate manner; demonstrate both problem-solving and problem-prevention; multicultural sensitivity and demonstrated ability to be courteous to clients and CCS staff; displays sensitivity to the needs of clients, their families, visitors, co-workers, volunteers and other persons with whom you may interact; recognize time as a valuable resource; consistently perform work assignments in a time-efficient manner; use time well when reporting for work, meetings, work groups, etc. as scheduled; ability to maintain confidentiality.

                                WIC (Women, Infant, and Children) Volunteer

                                Description

                                Volunteers to assist in educating refugee clients on how to utilize public transportation and to access resources in the community. Specifically, volunteers will help women and children access WIC services by partnering with a family each week from the initial appointment, WIC vouchers, grocery tours, and public transportation to WIC clinics and grocery stores.

                                  Description

                                  Meet with unaccompanied refugee youth in foster care to assist with homework and encourage students to take control of their academic life while improving personal, social and cultural skills. Tutors help their clients to build positive relationships and provide students with a committed role model. Tutors help students with cultural adjustment, social skills, confidence and schoolwork.
