Description:

Provides year-round energy assistance and energy related crisis assistance for eligible low-income households throughout Utah. The program runs each year from October 1 through September 30. A one-time benefit is provided per year per household, up to two utility accounts. Administers the Utility Moratorium Program to prevent winter utility shut-off between November 15 and March 15 of each winter. For a limited time, those who qualify for utility payment assistance, may also qualify for water payment assistance.

Regular and Crisis Assistance

Description

Provides utility assistance for power and gas bills year-round for income-eligible households (HEAT season runs from October 1st-September 30th annually). There are two programs available: 1) Regular HEAT funds are distributed one-time, per season, per household - maximum $700 per season; 2) Crisis Assistance for households with a 48-hour shut-off notice and a crisis situation - maximum amount $2000 - in addition to regular HEAT benefit. Administers the Moratorium Program to prevent winter utility shut-offs between November 15th and March 15th each winter. For a limited time, those who qualify for utility payment assistance, may also qualify for water payment assistance. Required Documents

Photo ID for applicant, Social security cards for all household members who have a number, proof of income for the PREVIOUS CALENDAR MONTH for each adult 18 & older, recent utility bills for both power and gas. Additional documentation may be requested as needed. Optional documents that may increase the HEAT benefit: 1) Proof of child 5 or younger, 2) Proof of disability, 3) Proof of medical/dental/vision/prescription expenses paid in the previous calendar month, 4) Proof of child support/alimony paid in the previous calendar month.

Eligibility

Total household income is at or below 150% of the Federal Poverty Level. Household is responsible to pay utility charge and must contain at least one US citizen or qualified non-citizen (i.e. Permanent Resident, etc.).

No Walk-ins; call to request an appointment. Home visits may be requested for home bound individuals who do not have the ability to apply any other way. Vary by HEAT season. Currently have staff that speak Spanish, Swahili, Arabic, Samoan, Tongan, and German.
