    Circuit Breaker Tax Abatement

    Description

    Reduction or abatement on property tax on residences in Salt Lake County equivalent to a 20 percent reduction in fair market value of your property. COVID-19 UPDATE: The agency is now open to the public. Following all CDC and state guidelines.

    Required Documents

    Tax return including all attachments and schedules for each household member required to file. Yearly statement of benefits for each household member that received social security benefits. If you do not file a tax return send copies of all 1099's or 457 withdrawals and other miscellaneous payments. If you are an alien and lawfully present in the US provide your alien registration number and copies of your immigration documents.

    Eligibility

    At least 66 years of age or surviving spouse with household income up to $34,166. U.S. citizen or qualified alien, owner of property record by January 1st of application year, Utah residency for one calendar year, under qualified income, not be dependent on another's tax return.

    Intake Procedure

    Call for information by dialing the main number and selecting option 2 to reach the Tax Relief Division. Application to be filed by September 1st to the Salt Lake County Treasurer unless the filing deadline has been extended. COVID-19 UPDATE: The agency is now open to the public.
