Promise South Salt Lake

A department of the City of South Salt Lake that provides dynamic, highly specialized youth and adult community programming with an education and prevention focus at 14 neighborhood centers throughout the City. Programs emphasize equity, diversity and putting children first, and provide safe, well rounded, data-driven programs guided by three promises: every child has the opportunity to attend and to graduate from college; every resident has a safe, clean home and neighborhood; and everyone has the opportunity to be healthy and to prosper. Services include community summer school, youth enrichment programs, community information and referral services, computer literacy training, community adult schools, job training formats, and related volunteer opportunities.

Description:

Full day summer programs for students entering 1st -12th grades are provided for youth and their families who live, learn, work, play in South Salt Lake.

The Co-Op is a space to connect, work, learn, and grow located inside the South Salt Lake Community Center. Provides education and other resources for digital inclusion, financial empowerment, career and business advancement, and basic needs services and referrals.

The Workforce Inclusion and Successful Employment (WISE) Program is for individuals who are committed to setting goals and completing tasks towards career advancement outcomes.

Open to all Salt Lake County residents with household income at or below 200% of Federal Poverty Guidelines.

The Teen Tech Center provides members an innovative space filled with state-of-the-art technology that members can use as tools to complete passion projects, such as making music, creating multimedia art, designing 3D objects, and much more. A safe space for teens to be themselves through collaboration and creativity.

Volunteer opportunities are available in a variety of capacities. Individuals who wish to volunteer with youth, seniors, and families must participate in a scheduled orientation, and pass a background check. Volunteers must comply with all city policies regarding volunteer interaction. One-time volunteers, individuals or groups volunteering in activities that do not have interactions with youth, are not required to do a background check.

Each day includes snack and dinner services, homework help or tutoring, enrichment activities which include; model prevention programming, art, STEM, recreation, service learning, and college and career prep. The programs are supported by staff trained in best practices, college mentors and volunteers, and programming partners.

Grades K-12 including those who are home-schooled. South Salt Lake residents given preference. Must attend at assigned school. Boxing Program is for those 8 - 18 years of age.
