Bridgerland Literacy

This program offers adult literacy programs and volunteer opportunities where individuals are paired with students requiring assistance in reading, writing, spelling, math, and basic computer skills. The instruction is confidential and tailored to the specific needs and abilities of each student through one-on-one sessions.

Adult Literacy Programs
Description:

Offers private, one-hour reading tutoring twice weekly for Cache Valley adults and children below grade-level reading skills.

Eligibility:
English-speaking adults with literacy skills below the eighth grade level and children/youth reading below grade level. Applicants must be conversational in English. Beginners in English are referred to The English Language Center.
Service Hours:
M - F 9 am - 2:30 pm
Intake Procedure:
Call for appointment. The first visit will include a brief orientation, an informal evaluation of reading skills, and a beginning goal setting session.
Fees:
$20 per hour, with scholarships available.

Literacy Volunteer Opportunities
Description:

Tutors meet with a student 2 hours a week. Tutor training sessions are held on an ongoing individual basis.

Eligibility:
Volunteers must be over the age of 18, able to read, write, and understand English fluently, pass a background check, and commit to two hours per week for 6 months.

M - F 9 am - 2:30 pm
