Hands on instruction to prevent and alleviate the risks of child abuse and neglect, strengthen the family unit, and increase life skills. Program allows the peer parents to work intensively with families in their homes. New parenting skills are taught, discussed, and home practice exercises are assigned.
Supports families to prevent child abuse, by providing parenting education classes, trauma therapy for children, linking families to appropriate community resources, adoption respite care, and crisis nursery care.
Crisis nursery offers respite care for all members of the community, but FSCO also offers Adoption Respite to families who have foster children or have adopted a child through the State of Utah's Division of Child and Family Services. Program accommodates children with severe behavioral challenges that may make it difficult for parents to locate a babysitter. Provides care for ALL children in the family, not just the adopted or foster child(ren).
Provides education for parents in a group setting to help families implement changes so that chaotic homes become safe. Belittling gives way to encouragement, fighting becomes respectful discussion and problem solving, and tears turn into smiles. Parenting Classes are eight weeks long with childcare for children up to 11 years of age, (based on availability). Stepfamily classes are seven weeks long with families divided into groups (adults, teens, and school-aged children) with childcare for children up to 5 years of age.
Assistance for families in the community in locating resources to meet their specific needs.
Crisis nursery provides a healthy, nurturing atmosphere for children when parents have no one to turn to for child care during stress, emergencies or self-help appointments. Crisis nursery is for emergencies, or to prevent emergencies or crisis. FSCO encourages parents to utilize the Nursery before they are overwhelmed. Parents are welcome to call and schedule the nursery ahead of time for planned events such as doctors appointments, but priority is given to crisis situations.
