Refugee and Immigrant Center - Asian Association of Utah

Local community based nonprofit focused on reducing the barriers that refugees and immigrants face when adapting to life in the U.S. Services are offered in one easily accessible location and include: employment help, mortgage payment assistance in Salt Lake City, counseling and mental health treatment, ESL and translation services, youth enrichment programs, court ordered community service options, benefits and certificate forms assistance, AIDS/HIV prevention counseling, parenting skills classes, general/spouse and intimate partner abuse/substance use disorder counseling, substance use disorder education, and related mentoring and volunteer opportunities.

Tutoring Volunteer Opportunities
Description:

After school Program Volunteers needed to assist refugee and immigrant youth with homework, tutoring of all subjects, reading, skill-building, assisting with learning activities and other educational activities. Opportunities available evenings and weekdays.

Must be at least 14 years old and be able to pass a background check.

Mentoring Services Volunteer Opportunities
Description:

Family mentor volunteers needed to mentor refugee families leaving their home country due to war or persecution. Volunteer mentors act as guides for refugees needing to adapt to new language and customs. Opportunities available evenings, weekdays and weekends.

Description:

Rent Payment Assistance
Description:

May assist eligible homeless or low-income individuals with financial assistance to pay rent. Emphasis is on supporting immigrants or clients with refugee status.

Eligibility:
Qualified applicants must be at or below 80% AMI and show proof of income, owner occupied property in Utah, Weber, or Davis county, and reason for hardship. Examples of qualifying events of hardship could be late or behind on mortgage payments, financially impacted by COVID-19 or other medical needs, job loss, deferred home or car repair. Current funding specific to refugee and immigrant populations.

Certificates/Forms Assistance
Description:

Assisting with the application process, and research eligibility, for those applying on the Rent Relief Utah website, created to apply for rent/utility payment assistance to those who were affected by COVID-19 after March 12, 2020.

Those residing in Salt Lake County and meet the eligibility requirements to apply for rent/utility through the Rent Relief Utah website.

Description:

Special funding available for mortgage payment assistance to Salt Lake City households in support of housing stability and prevention of homelessness.

Eligibility:
Qualified applicants must be at or below 80% AMI and show proof of income, owner occupied property in SLC, and reason for hardship. Examples of qualifying events of hardship could be late or behind on mortgage payments, financially impacted by COVID-19 or other medical needs, job loss, deferred home or car repair.
